60% of tablets shipped worldwide in 2012 will be the iPad

Gartner has released its crystal ball and considers the tablet sales will grow from about 60 million in 2011 to almost double in 2012, namely 119 million. Among them will be 60% of iPad.
As expected, the number of deliveries of tablets in 2012 will be much higher than that of 2011, where 60 million pieces were sold worldwide. The Gartner now estimates that nearly 119 million tablets will be passed this year.
And no real surprise either, 60% of these 119 million tablets will be the iPad. The manufacturer should sell 73 million this year, against 40 million last year. Side projections, it is estimated that Apple will pass the threshold of 100 million tablets sold in 2013.
Android will not exceed iOS
More than just a fashion, the shelves are well and truly become indispensable objects that provide a new use, that users seem to appreciate. Thus, there is room in the market for another player, Android in this case, which remains in second place on Tablet OS, despite the many models available. Gartner does not see the Google OS than Apple's, and even in 4-6 years.
The other challenger is of course Windows 8, which should also make his mark, even with the delay that has already accumulated on its two competitors. This can be seen elsewhere in the table proposed by Gartner:
OS
| 2011
| 2012 | 2013 | 2016 |
| iOS | 39,998 | 72,998 | 99,553 | 169,652 |
| Android | 17,292 | 37,878 | 61,684 | 137,657 |
| Microsoft | 0 | 4,863 | 14,547 | 43,648 |
| QNX | 807 | 2,643 | 6,036 | 17,836 |
| Autres OS | 1,919 | 510 | 637 | 464 |
| Total | 60,017 | 118,883 | 182,457 | 369,258 |
It remains to point out the obvious difficulties of QNX, the platform used by RIM with its PlayBook tablet, to penetrate this market. Gartner estimates yet to finish the professional market will account for 35% of sales volume in 2015.
